Haileybury received the award at the Australian Education Awards in Sydney on Friday, 9th August.

Doubling up on Haileybury’s success, Dominika Kapustka, Digital Learning Leader (Middle School), was named Education Rising Star of the Year.

The Australian Education Awards recognise our country’s most creative, committed and thought-leading schools and educators, and the awards continue Haileybury’s success at the annual event.

Earning the Primary School of the Year – Non-government award is an achievement that the school is particularly proud of, says Mr Scott Doran, Haileybury Vice Principal Community Engagement & Advancement.

“The primary school years are a vital first step in a young person’s educational journey. Those years help shape a child’s love of learning that they carry with them for life.”

“This is the time when the right school and the right teachers spark curiosity and give children the confidence to explore, ask questions and try new learning experiences. These are a routine part of the school day at our primary school.” said Mr Doran.

Haileybury’s individually tailored primary programs are based on research and best practice and support children to have fun, build resilience and thrive academically and personally. Every lesson has a focused lesson intention, and success criteria and regular assessment enable our teachers to give each student and their family valuable and specific feedback so students are continually challenged.

Through Haileybury’s acclaimed Explicit Teaching Model, based on ‘I Do, We Do, You Do’, teachers show children what they are learning, how to do It, and why they are learning it, and this embeds skills and confidence in students from the beginning.

Haileybury has shared its Explicit Teaching Model with teachers and school leaders nationally and internationally to help children beyond Haileybury build stronger literacy and numeracy skills.

Each year, Haileybury Primary School students consistently achieve NAPLAN results well above the national average.

“Our Primary School program also encourages students to explore their passions and to try a range of subjects – from Visual Arts and Chinese to PE and extra-curricular activities. They also regularly take part in events such as the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee,” says Mr Doran.

“We’re very proud that our Primary School program nurtures a love of learning, curiosity about the world and gives young learners the confidence and tools they need in their school journey.”

Mr Grenville Green, Deputy Principal (Junior School), says Haileybury’s continued success in being recognised once again as Primary School of the Year – Non-government is the result of teachers and staff working together to share their talents and to develop high-quality teaching and learning resources for every student.

“Their collective effort, care and collaboration ensures consistency of educational excellence for students across classes, campuses and year levels,” says Mr Green.

“Our teachers are passionate and continually strive to ensure that every student matters every day.”
